Deadlifts, burpees, running, OH MY....

Friday's WOD was 1 dead lift followed by 6 burpees every minute on the minute X 15. I thought I was stronger and able to deadlift at LEAST 180lbs, but I struggled at 175 so I dropped the weight to 155lb. The burpees, sucked, as always! I am getting stronger, that I know. But since I haven't been running, my endurance has been low. Ughhh, so today I decided to run 1 mile, that's all. 1 mile is something I know I can run. I ran my 1 mile and chuckled at myself for running JUST 1 mile....

I remember the first time I ran an hour straight on the treadmill without stopping. I was THRILLED! I ran 6 miles and felt great. As I may have mentioned in a previous blog, I was a gym rat, so everything I did was indoors. The idea of running outdoors wasn't appealing, at all.
Someone suggested we train for a triathlon. All that went through my mind was: A what? Ummm..you mean, doing those endurance thingies back to back because...why?  Huh-huh: Swim, Bike, Run. That's right, back-to-back. I laughed at the thought but took on the challenge.

It was during my training that I ran outdoors for the first time. Running 1 mile outside was more difficult for me than running 6 miles on the treadmill. Oh, and just so you know how I felt after that 1 mile: I stopped and cried because, well, who knew I was capable of that? I sure as hell didn't!

Running has since become an amazing outlet for me. I started off running because it made me feel good. I was able to maintain a healthy weight just from running. I enjoyed doing shorter distance runs by myself, but realized I need to be with people during my longer runs. I needed that extra push and motivation.

I trained and completed several half marathons, several marathons, and 1 ultra. I am proud of those accomplishments. (But, I am also disappointed that running a half marathon seems so damn far-fetched for me right now). Hence my 1 mile a day for a week. The motto for some is: One day at a time. Well, mine is now one mile at a time.
